Amoxicillin Capsules are oral antibiotic medicine, which can treat bacterial infections, such as chest infections, tonsillitis, pneumonia, and so on.
Amoxicillin is a form of penicillin, and should be swallowed whole with water. It should not be taken if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin or any other ingredient in this medicine. You should refer to the patient information leaflet, before taking Amoxicillin capsules.
It is a prescription-only medicine.
How to take Amoxicillin capsules:
You should take the capsules whole with water, and doses should be spaced out evenly throughout the day, at least 4 hours apart. The amount taken per day will depend on the severity and type of infection.
How long do I need to take Amoxicillin capsules for?
You should keep taking the capsules for as long as your doctor has advised, even if you feel better. This is so that your body can fight the infection fully, because if some bacteria survive, then the infection could come back.
You should be aware that each time you take an antibiotic when it’s not necessary, the effectiveness of the antibiotic decreases. This then causes antibiotic resistance to build up, meaning then when you really need it, it may not work.
