    What is Wegovy?

Wegovy is an injectable prescription medication, which can be used to help adults with obesity to lose weight. It should be used alongside a healthy diet and exercise.

Wegovy contains the drug semaglutide, which is a Glucagon-like Peptide (GLP-1) receptor. This means that it increases incretin hormones, so that your body produces more insulin when needed and reduces the amount of glucose produced by the liver when it’s not needed, so it can control the blood sugar levels. In turn, this reduces the rate that the stomach digests and empties food, reducing appetite.

Wegovy is approved for weight loss for people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above or people with a BMI of 27 and above, and they have a weight-related health condition, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

    How should I use Wegovy?

Your healthcare provider should show you how to use Wegovy. It is injected into the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. It should not be injected into a muscle or vein. You should also rotate your injection site, with each injection. It can be taken with or without food.

Wegovy should be injected once a week, on the same day, at any time. You should start with 0.25mg for the first month, then increase to 0.5mg in the second month, and then in the third month increase the weekly dose to 1 mg.
